The Loud Crash of the Cymbals

This truly is a unique and very different instrument. It is not one that can play different tunes and does not offer a wide range like other musical instruments do. One will often wonder where the idea for this particular instrument came from. It is simple, unique and one that continues to be used in music today. They have also been used for a variety of other purposes, including in marching bands and concert bands. It has even become a typical piece of the modern drum set or drum kit that drummers use. Cymbals are made out of different alloys, and there are many different kinds of cymbals created that have different sounds.

Cymbals are a member of the percussion instrument family and are used in just about any musical genre and are an instrument that has been around for longer than most are aware. In fact, evidence of the use of cymbals has been found in ancient Egypt, which are very similar to the ones we create today. It also appears that ancient Persians made and used cymbals, which they made out of brass. Even the Greeks appeared to have used bell-shaped cymbals. Of course, the cymbals made today are more complex than the ones made in the past.

Besides the fact that cymbals are made out of different alloys, they are comprised of three different parts that offer different sounds when hit with a drum stick. The part of the cymbal that is used to get a "ping" sound is known as the bow. The part of the cymbal that gives the highest register of sound when struck with the drum stick is known as the bell. The last and third part of the cymbal that creates the most vibrations and loudest sound when the drum stick hits it is known as the rim.

It is clear that cymbals have been used by many people for many different reasons; some of them possibly being of a ritualistic or ceremonial nature. They have become more complex in recent times as people have sought to create a perfect sound from them. Today, cymbals are more commonly seen in drum set or drum kits, though they have been used separately from the drum set or drum kit for different reasons. For example, when used in symphonies, hand held cymbals have been used when the sound is required for the piece; though it is not an instrument that is often played by a musician who doesn't play anything else.

They are a simple instrument and it may be surprising to some that it has managed to remain a useful instrument until now. It is also one that will probably continue to be used in the future. Its unique sound is required by many musicians, especially drummers in certain music genres. It really is amazing that something as simple and easy to play as the cymbal has managed to remain useful in music for as long as it has; perhaps it is its simplicity that has allowed to it to survive for so long.
